AMAZING CRAFTS AT THE CANTE MUSEUM

The delicate miniatures by Francisco Manuel Soares are the most recent exhibition at the Museu do Cante, in Serpa. By the Hands of a Craftsman – Animal Traction Cars reveals an impressive work of detail. The models allow the visitor to have a close relationship with an aspect that was once crucial in rural life. The exhibition can be seen until April 26th.

The Cante Museum (Rua dos Cavalos, 12) opened in August 2021 and followed the existing Casa do Cante, which has the Manuel Dias Nunes Document Center, an exhibition gallery and an auditorium, which then gained an interpretive center.

The content is presented in a less academic way and is easier to access, with a lot of information in physical support and much more in digital format. One of the curiosities is the “cante box”: entering the box you can get the idea of what it is like to be in the middle of a choir group, “join” it and sing and record.

The space also has a collection of audio recordings from the 30s of the last century. Remember that the Cante Alentejo was classified as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2014
